Dan Morrill created some of the first mascot logos, but the current green Android logo was designed by Irina Blok.The project manager, Ryan Gibson, conceived the confectionery-themed naming scheme that has been used for the majority of the public releases, starting with Android 1.5 "Cupcake".

The November 5 date is popularly celebrated as Android's "birthday". Public beta versions of the SDK were released in the following order :
- November 12, 2007: m3-rc20a (milestone 3, release code 20a)
- November 16, 2007: m3-rc22a (milestone 3, release code 22a)
- December 14, 2007: m3-rc37a (milestone 3, release code 37a)
- February 13, 2008: m5-rc14 (milestone 5, release code 14)

Andoid Beta |
It was the upgraded version of versions Alpha and Beta. Cupcake included new features such as onscreen keyboard and bluetooth support.

The most important feature introduced with this update were added support for CDMA smartphones, additional screen size, a battary usage indicator and a text to speech engine.
But this cersion was not more success in public.

In this version there is a google search bar across the top of the screen
Some application was redesigned like camera, gallary etc.
Addition of live wallpaper, allowing the animations of homescreen background images to show movement.

In this version there is a most important feature that is USB tethering and WIFI hotspot functionality.
There was some other changes which are additional application speech improvement.

GingerBread interface was refined in many ways making it easier to master, faster to use and more power effecient.

- improved text input using the virtual keyboard and voice input capability.
- Enhanced copy paste functionality.
- New audio effects.
- New download manager.
- Support for multiple cameras on the same device if front facing camera is available.
Andoid Ginger bread |
It was a special version for extra large devices particularly tablets. Honeycomb was first release in Motorola xoom in 2009.
It had a main feature of android such as multitasking, notification and widgets.
- Email and Contact app.
- The gallary app access with thumbnails for other photos in a collection.
- Tabs are added in the main browser and the incognito mode for anonymous browsing.
- Redesigned keyboard.
Andoid Honeycomb |
It was a version which can be operate on both smartphone and tablets.
The Icecreame Sandwich release also introduce a number of new features, including a refreashed Homescreen.
- It had a upgraded browser.
- New contact manager.
- The ability to access the camera.
- Control music playback from the lockscreen.
- Face recognisation for device unlocking.
- Ability to monitor and set mobile data usage limit.
Andoid Ice cream Sandwich |
The Improvements in this version, are operating system a smoother and more responsive feels and in notification system.
- Lockscreen widgets.
- Quick settings and screen savers.
- Individual notification can now display additional content or action button such as "Call Back" or "Message" on a missed call.
Andoid Jelly-Bean |
In this version there is a extra sms app which is google hangouts.
- Apps may trigger a translucent status and navigation bar appearance, or trigger a full screen mode.
- action overflow menu buttons in apps are always visible
- In the Settings menu, users can now specify a default Home (launcher) and text messaging app.
- The AOSP Gallery app was also deprecated in favor of Google+ Photos.
Andoid Kit Kat |
There are some changes in this version.
- It is a redesigned user interface built around a design language known as material design ehich was made to retain a paperlike feel to interface.
- Other changes include improvementsto the notifications which can be accessed from the lock screen and displayed within application as top of the screen banners.
- A "Do not disturb feauture" is also added for notification it also improves the battery life of the device.

It is the 6th major version of android operationg system.
- It introduced new permissions, architectures.
- Native support for finger print recognisation and USB type-c connectors.
- A new "Assist" API allows information from a currently opened app, including text and a screenshot of the current screen to be sent to a designated assistant application for analysis and processing.
- this system is used by the google app feature "Google now" on top which allows user to perform searches within the content of information currently being displayed on screen.
- By holding the home button or using a voice cammand, on-screen cards are generated which display information.
Andoid Marsh Mallow |
Nougat introduces notable changes to the operating system and its development platform, including the ability to display multiple apps on-screen at once in a split-screen view, support for inline replies to notifications.
- The notification shade was redesigned.
- Featuring a smaller row of icons for settings.
- Replacing notification cards with a new "sheet" design, and allowing inline replies to notifications.
- The "Doze" power saving mechanism introduced in Android Marshmallow was expanded to include a state activated when the device is running on battery and the screen has been off for a period of time but is not stationary.
- A new "Data Saver" mode restricts background mobile data usage
- It can trigger internal functions in apps that are designed to reduce bandwidth usage, such as capping the quality of streaming media.
