How to Show a Speed Limit on Google Maps

We’ve all found ourselves in the uncertain position where we don’t quite know what the rules are for a local road. No, we’re not talking about knowing which side of the road to drive on – that should be a given (we hope) – but things like speed limits.
Google Maps didn’t always have speed limit information available, but as of May 2019, it’s added a feature that lets you see speed limits in over forty countries worldwide. The full list of countries that now has speed limit information on Google Maps includes Australia, Brazil, U.S., Canada, U.K., India, Mexico, Russia, Japan, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Morocco, Namibia, Netherlands, Norway, Oman, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Tunisia, and Zimbabwe

So for those of you in one of the above countries, here’s how to bring up the speed limit when you’re using Google Maps navigation.
1. Open Google Maps on your device, press the menu icon at the top left and go to Settings.
get Speed Limit Google Maps Settings
2. Go to Navigation settings, then scroll down to “Driving options.”

3. Make sure that the “Speed limits” switch is blue, which means it’s “On.”
For extra guidance you can also switch on the Speedometer option underneath that which will show right next to the speed limit the speed you’re currently traveling. It saves you having to look between your dashboard and your phone screen all the time.

Conclusion

Google Maps is steadily becoming more Waze-like since acquiring the nifty sat-nav company, and along with the speed limits option, your navigation will also tell you when you’re approaching those pesky speed traps.
We recommend using all these features in conjunction to give you maximum awareness of your speed and the limits around you.
