Little by little, Instagram is where everyone is going to talk to their friends. To make it easy for your friends to find you, you may add things to your account such as your phone number or your Facebook account. Soon, everyone can find you with your info.
You can be found if your account is not private, but if you want to make it hard for them, definitely try the following tips. By removing specific information, even if that person has your phone number, they won’t be able to find you on the social network.
Remove Your Facebook Account from Instagram
To make things easier for you, Instagram allows you to sign in with your Facebook account. This also make it easier for others with Facebook to find you. To remove your Facebook account, tap on the profile icon at the bottom right.
Tap on Settings and swipe down to “Privacy and Security.” Tap on “Linked Accounts,” and you’ll see a series of accounts that you can connect to Instagram. The ones that are in blue are the ones that are connected. Tap on your Facebook account, and at the bottom you’ll see a grey unlink button.
Once you unlink your Facebook account, you will no longer appear in the “Follow Facebook Friends List.”
Remove Your Phone Number from Instagram
Before you go ahead with removing your phone number from Instagram, keep in mind that you won’t be able to have the two-factor authentication feature enabled. You also need to have a verified email address for this to work since Instagram does require at least one verified way to contact you.
You can disable two-factor-authentication by going to “Settings -> Privacy and Security -> Two-Factor Authentication.” Select the toggle beside the Text Message option.
To remove your phone number, tap on the profile icon and select “Edit Profile.” Swipe down to Private Information, and your phone number will be the second one down.
Prevent Your Friends from Finding You in Similar Accounts
The person you’re trying to hide from can easily find you if they are following an account similar to yours. To disable this feature, go to Instagram on your desktop browser. You won’t be able to disable this feature on your phone or tablet.
Once you’ve accessed Instagram on the Web, click on the profile icon and then on the “Edit Profile” button. Towards the bottom you’ll see a box you can uncheck that will prevent your account from appearing in any similar account results. Don’t forget to click on the blue Submit button.
Turn Your Online Status Off
If you want even more privacy, turning your online status off is a step in the right direction. To hide your online status from others, go to Settings just like you did in the previous tips and swipe down to Privacy and Security. Tap on Activity Status and toggle off the “Show Activity Status” button. If the button is blue, that means that it’s on, and if it’s grey it’s off.
Conclusion
The only way that no one will be able to find you is if you erase your account. But since you may not want to do that, hiding is your best bet. How do you hide in Instagram’s shadows? Let us know in the comments.
